Why Should I
Become a Big?

Mostly because it’s awesome. You’ll be a hero, just by making a Little part of your everyday life. By getting in touch with your own youth, being an example, and making a friend. It’s fun. It’s rewarding. And when your Little isn’t so little anymore, you’ll see you’ve made a difference. Not just in their life, but in yourself, your community, and your world.

There’s a fit for you.

We know you’re busy. Cool thing is, there’s more than one way to be a mentor. We’ve got three, in fact. And they’re all designed so you can get involved in the way that works best for you.

Community-based Mentoring

This is what we’re best known for. You’ll be matched with a Little based on interests. From there you’ll spend a year hanging out, for about an hour a week. What you do is up to you and your Little. Go-karts. Fishing. Folding laundry. Burning a soufflé. Whatever you normally do, or whatever you and your Little want to do. That’s what you’ll do.

Site-based Mentoring

A site-based program is operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fox Valley Region in conjunction with local schools and organizations. In the site-based mentoring program, volunteers visit a site near their home or work and are paired with a student on a one-to-one basis. Theese weekly meetings may occur on or off campus depending upon the age of the child. Matches usually meet for an hour over the lunch hour or after school, for the duration of the school year.

Activities such as; games, crafts, sports, reading and using the computer help develop a relationship with your little brother or little sister while fostering their skill development, confidence, interest in learning and the importance of education.

You can do this.

If you’re a Little’s hero, think of us as your utility belt. We’ll never leave you on your own. Our staff are trained social services professionals, here to help whenever you need it. You’ll be well-equipped with loads of information, advice, tips, and answers. And we’ve also got activity ideas, organized events, and a handy list of discounts available to our Matches.
